Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his son Donald Jr. clashed over the weekend, with Trump tweeting that the president of Azerbaijan had been trying to bribe the son’s father into accepting a Trump Tower hotel proposal.
“I guess the president is trying to get my son into the building,” Trump wrote.
“He’s the president and he’s the boss, and he doesn’t like my son.
He said he wants to pay him $5 million to leave the country.”
He continued, “So he’s trying to take $5,000 of my money, and I’m not going to take it, and that’s all he wants.
That’s all I want.
He’s the worst, and the worst is a lot worse than that.
And he’s a horrible human being.”
Trump’s tweets come a day after the president called the president’s son a “puppet” during a White House news conference and suggested that the family’s relationship with the president was “totally dysfunctional.”
“The president of Russia is trying, very unsuccessfully, to help my son Donald Trump, get into the United States.
He is not happy about that,” Trump said.
“We have a very good relationship, but he has to understand that, and so does my son.”
Trump and Putin have been in a war of words over Russia’s actions in Ukraine, which the US and Europe have accused of destabilizing the country and violating international law.
Trump, however, has said that Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 was justified by Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and said he would be willing to talk with Putin.
